2023 Australia Harmony Cup Table Tennis Tournament took place at Melbourne Sports Centre on 21 and 22/10/2023.

In October, spring breeze was blowing pleasingly, and the sun was shining brightly. We enjoyed the breath of spring and with light-feet, we welcomed the arrival of the long-awaited Australia Harmony Cup Table Tennis Tournament.

Table tennis is our national sport, our spring dream and our spirit. This sport allows us to fully explore and display our vigour. With our strength and spirit, we have developed our own niche in the table tennis circle of Melbourne.

October, with spring being very much in the air, interpreted the meaning of life. All gathered at the Melbourne Sport Centre for the event had a common wish to make like-minded friends through this friendly competition. 

We came with a common goal for promoting innovative ideas in table tennis, learning from each other, developing our table tennis skills and then further making positive contributions to the health development of our harmony society and communities.

Mr. Zeng Jian Hua, Acting Consul General of Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Melbourne delivered an opening speech.

Ms. Zai Lan, athlete representative gave her speech at the opening ceremony. Ms. Zai used to be a professional table tennis player originally from People’s Liberation Army August 1st Table Tennis Team of China.

She won Victoria women's singles championship and the mixed doubles championship between the ages of thirty and fifty quite a few times. For recognition of her outstanding performance and achievements in table tennis, she was awarded the prize for the Best table tennis player of Australian Table Tennis Association.

Our title sponsor, Ms. Lu Lu Zhang, General Manager of Melbourne Beauty Chain Dr Spa & Skin Lab made her speech at the opening ceremony.

With a strong table tennis spirit, Mr. Zhang Guang Yuan, President of Melbourne Table Tennis Association has devoted himself to the development of table tennis sport in Australia.

In the last two years, he initiated and organized successfully the Wyndham Cup, Melbourne Cup and this year’s Australia Harmony Cup Table Tennis Tournament. His persistent effort in promoting table tennis has greatly contributed to booming table tennis sport in Australia and construction of multicultural society as well as the Unity and Harmony relationships between all nationality groups.

Singers from Melbourne Edelweiss Chorus were singing Olympic theme song《You and Me》at the Opening Ceremony. Singer, David Qian and Kim Jin, with their beautiful natural voice, soulfully sang this song out the common aspiration of the peoples of the world, the theme of “One World, One Dream”.

Table tennis athletes were looking at the table tennis competition schedule. 

16 tables started simultaneously. Small table tennis balls came and went in a hurry, fast or slow, and players quickly responded to each other's ball path. 

Although they were all amateur table tennis players, their solid ping pong skills enabled them to quickly and accurately respond to opponents' attacks.

The players played lively, intense and interesting games. By balancing their skills and tactics, they fully showcased the charm of table tennis. 

Their table tennis game was so brilliant that people forget about time. 

During their matches, players always maintained a high level of alertness and agility and were able to catch the opponent's service changes at any time and responded quickly. 

They play in a very professional posture. With focused eyes, they get the most out of every beat. Their meticulous observation and skills are admirable. 

Look, the small silver ball flew back and forth, flickered left and right. The ball was just blocked back and then it flew back in an instant. It's late to say, then it's fast. He seized the opportunity and won with one strike. 

In their hands, the racket became a work of art, and each ball was caught and used to the extreme. 

He made accurate judgments and decisive decisions, and able to quickly adjust tactics based on changing situations. 

The little player ran like a shadow, quickly reacting correctly to the opponent's ball path. 

Although they don’t have the advantages of young players, but their playing style is very mature. Every time they hit, the ball was carefully planned and rarely made mistakes. 

Among players over 65 years old, one of them has reached the age of 75. Although they are no longer young, they are not old at heart. Their table tennis skills are quite outstanding. Their precise ball control ability is very impressive. 

Wonderful moments on the table tennis court 

Small as he is, he is ambitious. In the competition, he won an exciting moment for himself relied on his tenacity and wisdom.

Retirement picks up the fun of table tennis, and white hair and silver balls complement each other. Strengthen the body and enjoy the child's heart, and winning or losing is all the best for health. 

Serving skills are not only a technique, but also an art. In the passionate collision of table tennis balls, athletes were striving to surpass their limits. 

Playing table tennis well is a realm, and their gracefully and beautifully swinging their racket is a test of their skills. 

A fierce attack with a forehand explosion, like an instant thunderbolt. The player’s whole set of movements was chic and smooth, and it was done in one go. 

He knows that victory can only be achieved by combining strength and technology. 

In an instant, the ball and the player looked at each other and formed a tacit understanding. He promptly swung his racket to help the ball move forward, and the silver ball quickly flew towards the opponent's target. 

Table tennis players responded quickly according to their opponent's ball path, and the resonance between the racket and the ball made the table tennis ball jump and shuttle on the table at an incredible speed. 

The little table tennis player serviced out a clear sky thunderbolt ball, flying like a meteor to the opponent's table. 

Table tennis sport has given him the colour of life, making his life full of vitality. Life lies in exercise, and exercise feeds him back and nurtures his youthful vitality. 

His attitude towards life and his passion in table tennis deeply infected us. From him, we experienced the joy, vitality, health, and happiness of playing table tennis. This is the charm of table tennis.

A wonderful moment when a table tennis racket collided with a table tennis ball. When the player lightly swung the racket and collided with the ball, it seems that time had also been frozen. The trajectory of table tennis ball in the air exhibited a unique and graceful posture. 

The players stood in front of the table, quickly adjusted their body posture, held their racket firmly, and as they tossed the table tennis ball, their bodies also rose and fell, and then shot the ball fiercely towards the opponent's defensive area. The entire movement was coherent and smooth, as if it was a touching dance of a human-ball dancing together. 

Table tennis athletes, with their robust bodies, were not afraid of hardships and challenged one technical peak after another in their table tennis skills. 

How can one know if one is a strong in table tennis without trying? They understand that only by having the courage to innovate and challenge their own limits can they create miracles and create brilliance. 

From the advantages of their straight and horizontal shots and the forehand and backhand attack skills, the players with their firm foundation of table tennis skills successfully maintained their concentration and achieved ease and adaptability during their competitions. 

Players vigorously swung their rackets to perform their skills such as receiving, serving, blocking, dribbling, and chopping to the fullest.

Ms. Zhailan used to be a professional table tennis player of the August 1st team of China. She has won multiple championships in women's singles and mixed doubles between the ages of 30-50, as well as the Best Athlete award of the Australian Table Tennis Association.

Ms. Miao Miao is a Chinese American table tennis player who serves for the Australian national team. She has represented Australia in four Olympic Games and four Commonwealth Games.

The 2023 Australian Harmony Cup Table Tennis Tournament has come to a successful conclusion. 

The gymnasium was brightly lit, and the photography equipment frequently flickered with dazzling light, like stars in the night sky.

Outside of the gym, a rainbow appeared in the afternoon sky, symbolizing the light of hope in our lives. It also symbolized the dual gains of our love for table tennis, namely happiness and health!

Through this tournament, table tennis enthusiasts enjoyed the process of their competitions, gained cooperation and friendship. At the same time, they experienced the joy of success. Athletes’ outstanding performance in table tennis fully reflected the sports style of "cooperation, hard work and endeavour for excellence".
